What could cause swollen feet, that take time to go back to normal?

Ok, a few months ago my feet and ankles swelled up (especially the left), and at the suggestion of my massage therapist I drank more water, did some stretches, iced and massaged my feet, wore better shoes, walked more, and it went down. I thought it was related to some plantar faschitis I was having problems with.

However over this weekend both of my feet and ankles swelled up. They ballooned. they felt like sausages. At one point my right hand did it too but just for a short time. They are a little better now, I put them up at every chance I got, drank a lot of water, cut out salt some, walked some, wore the shoes that compress the squishyness out of my feet.

I don%26#039;t feel sick. I don%26#039;t have blood pressure problems to the best of my knowledge. I do retain water before my period but never this bad.

What could this be and is this an emergency?

Gout, look it up and see if you find anything like your symtoms.
Reply:Problems with your heart and or blood vessels/arteries can also cause the symptoms you describe.
Reply:check your blood sugar. that might be a sign of diabetes
