A DIABETIC QUESTION please help!?

VERY SIMPLE. I am 19 and a type 1 diabetic, and have always had very low A1C tests and sugar levels, but i have been experiencing numbness in my big toe for about 3 months now. It isnt really possible that im losing circulation there at this young of an age, is it? could it be my shoes doing this? when i massage it i regain some feeling for awhile, but not all.

A DIABETIC QUESTION please help!?
It very well could be your shoes fitting wrong. It could also be a neuropathy, but not necessarily from diabetes. I%26#039;d see your primary doctor so he can examine it and maybe do some blood work. My money is on the shoe fitting funny though.
Reply:it probably has sumthin to to with it. i am a borderline from type 2 diabeties, and i sumtimes get numbness in my arms and fingers, and i kno its not from bad circulation. check with your doctor or endocrinologist(thats wat i go and see)
Reply:Since you are a diabetic, it is possible that you maybe having the beginnings of diabetic neuropathy.

My husband has type 2 diabetes and suffers from neuropathy. He has numbness and pain in his feet, especially at night; which keeps him awake. When he first started having neuropathy, I would massage his feet with lotion, and it would help some. Now it does not help any more. The doctor put him on Neurontin 300 MG, 3 x daily. This has helped him.

You might try a brisk walk every day, which stimulates the circulation.

I really don%26#039;t think it is your shoes, because if it was you would be having pain instead of numbness. Because you are a diabetic, you may need to ask your doctor to have you fitted with diabetic shoes. This will give you more support and could help your feet in the long run. The soft insoles have really helped my husband.

Here are some very good websites that might give you more information on diabetic neuropthy: www.ada.org, www.webmd.com, mayoclinic.com, and about.com

Good luck. I hope you find an answer to your problem. I would suggest you tell your doctor and have him make you an appointment with podiatrist. He can help you determine what is causing the numbness in your toes.
Reply:I don%26#039;t think it has to do with your diabetes. I recently attended a few educational courses and they claimed that when you lose feeling in your toes that it happens in both feet at about the same time.

I would still talk to your foot doctor though.
